Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964, is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president as well as the highest-ranking female official of the United American. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
